LIVERMORE FALLS (AP) — The sister of a Maine woman severely injured in a suicide attack while serving as a military police officer in Afghanistan says her sibling is on her way to recovery but still has a long way to go.
U.S. Army police Sgt. Helaina Lake was injured on June 21 and is currently recovering at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in suburban Washington.
Kathrynn Lake tells the Sun Journal that her sister has undergone several surgeries on a shattered leg and is being treated for other injuries.
The 23-year-old Helaina Lake is from Livermore Falls and a 2007 graduate of Livermore Falls High School.
