SCARBOROUGH (AP) — Gov. Paul LePage is urging residents and visitors to be careful with fireworks they’ve purchased for use on the Fourth of July.

Thanks to a new state law, this Independence Day is the first in 63 years in which fireworks are legal in Maine. And LePage and state Fire Marshal Joseph Thomas used a visit to a fireworks store Monday in Scarborough to encourage responsible use of fireworks.

LePage and Thomas say state law limits fireworks to municipalities where they’re approved and requires people to be 21 to purchase and use them.
