SOUTH PORTLAND – The new Veterans Memorial Bridge connecting Portland and South Portland will open on Thursday, June 28.

The grand opening ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the Portland entrance of the new Veterans Memorial Bridge. Highlights include music, Maine Honor Guard raising of the colors, wreath laying ceremony, three volley salute and a small parade. The public is encouraged to join the music and celebration as the bridge will be open to pedestrians and bicyclists only from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Fore River Parkway will be closed to all but Mercy Hospital traffic during this time. The new Veterans Memorial Bridge will be open to traffic later that afternoon.
