PORTLAND (AP) — Maine’s Lobster Advisory Council is holding four meetings over the next two weeks to present a business and marketing plan intended to boost demand and prices for the delicious crustacean.

The plan calls for spending $3 million over three years to persuade people to eat more lobster.

Council chairman Bob Baines says the price of lobster in Maine hasn’t changed in a decade, but the cost of bait has doubled and the price of fuel has tripled.

The Portland Press Herald reports the meetings will allow the council to present the plan, and provide an opportunity for people in the industry to give feedback.

The first meeting is today in Yarmouth. The council is also holding meetings Thursday in Rockland; June 18 in Machias; and June 19 in Ellsworth.
