REYANN BROOKS, an eighth-grader at Mt. Ararat Middle School in Topsham, was honored with the Secretary of State’s 8th Grade Citizenship Award recently. She is the daughter of Rebecca and Jeff Brooks of Topsham. According to a news release, Brooks “was honored for her excellent grades, her work with students with special needs serving as a ‘lunch buddy’ each day and for her extensive volunteer time at the Coastal Humane Society, the local food pantry and the Special Olympics.” In addition, the release notes Brooks’ efforts “putting together care packages for overseas troops and assisting elderly neighbors.” She is also active in her local church. Sen. Seth Goodall, D-Sagadahoc County, and Rep. Seth Berry, D-Bowdoinham, along with Mt. Ararat Middle School Principal Bill Zima, right, presented the award to Brooks.
