
Messalonskee and Brunswick split, with the topseeded Dragon girls rolling to 13-0 with a 5-0 Eastern A victory over the No. 8 Eagles (4-10). Maisie Silverman, Ali Stankiewicz and Laura Pavitt won in straight sets, as well as the doubles teams of Alexa Rivers/Gillian Ford and Hannah Wright/Samiera Mac- Mullen.
Brunswick is set to host rival Mt. Ararat (7-6), the No. 5 seed, today at 3 p.m. in Eastern A semifinal play.
The Brunswick boys (9-4) dropped a tough 3-2 match to fifth-seeded Messalonskee. The Dragons fell in two singles matches, including Cormick Gaughran battling hard in a 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-2 loss to Messalonskee’s Billy Noble at No. 3 singles. The Eagles take on No. 1 Bangor in the Eastern A semifinals.
Western B quarterfinal matches were contested, with the Morse and Freeport boys dropping tough 3-2 matches on the road.
The Shipbuilders fell to Maranacook, with the Black Bears winning both doubles matches and Matt Surette defeating Mike Freeman at No. 2 singles to secure the victory for the hosts.
Freeport pushed undefeated Lincoln Academy (13-0) to the brink. Lincoln Academy won all three singles matches after the Falcons earned a pair of doubles wins. At No. 3 singles, Freeport’s Chris West fell to Brandon Blake in a three-set thriller, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7 in the tiebreaker).
In Western C girls, Wiscasset’s season came to a close with a 5-0 loss to No. 1 Hall- Dale. The Wolverines, the No. 8 seed, finished 6-8 in Sue Shorey’s return to coaching.
Hall-Dale (13-0) is scheduled to host No. 5 Lisbon (9-4), tentatively at 1 p.m. on Saturday, in the Western C semifinals at Farmingdale.
