BOWDOINHAM — Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department investigators arrested one man and are searching for another man after the two were interrupted by the homeowner while allegedly burglarizing a home in Fisher Road.

According to a release, sheriff’s deputies received a report of a burglary in progress at 1:32 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Fisher Road.

“Prior to their arrival, one male fled in a white Ford pickup truck after the homeowner surprised him in the driveway upon coming home,” the release states. The rear door to the residence was found kicked in and two television sets along with some jewelry had been left behind when a second suspect fled out the back door.

Deputy Steve Thibeault, Detective Chad Carleton and Maine State Trooper James Leonard happened to be nearby at the Bowdoinham Fire Department.

Thibeault and Carleton caught the driver in the Ford pickup a short distance away on Babes Way as the pickup was reportedly “backing up rapidly trying to avoid being seen.”

The driver, 24-year-old Thomas Lemay of 107B Eastern Drive in Wales, “briefly tried to drive around Deputy Thibeault’s cruiser and get away but quickly changed his mind and was taken into custody.”

Lemay was charged with burglary and is currently at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.

The suspect who allegedly fled from the back door of the Fisher Road residence was later identified as Ryan Letourneau, 27, of 733 Lisbon St., Lewiston. A police dog from Topsham was brought in to track him but, due to the heavy rain, was unsuccessful. Topsham and Richmond police departments also responded to the scene to help search for Letourneau.

As of this morning, Letourneau is still at large and is wanted on an arrest warrant for burglary.

According to the release, further investigation revealed that Letourneau and Lemay, who have been staying in Lewiston, “were involved in multiple other burglaries in Lewiston, Auburn, Durham and the New Gloucester area.”

Lewiston and Auburn police departments and the Maine State Police have all been able to recover numerous stolen items including televisions and other electronics.

“The suspects targeted unoccupied homes in secluded areas and forced open back doors, taking mostly jewelry and electronics,” the release states, adding that the sheriff ’s department believe this was the duo’s first attempted burglary within Sagadahoc County.

The case is still under investigation and anyone with information is encouraged to call the detective division at Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department at 386-5827.
