WOOLWICH — A spaghetti supper to kick off fundraising for next year’s Woolwich Central School eighth grade trip to Washington, D.C., will run from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Huse School, 39 Andrews Road.
Seventh-graders host the event, which signals the beginning of their fundraising efforts for the 2013 trip.
The school’s eighth grade travels to the nation’s capital each June. Part of the civics curriculum at Woolwich Central School, the four-day trip features hands-on activities for students, including meeting with Maine’s senators, laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, visiting the presidential and war memorials, and when available, a tour at the White House.
The entire cost of the trip, which exceeds $20,000, is raised by class members through private donations. Typically, students raise funds for more than two years.
The menu for Saturday’s supper includes spaghetti with homemade sauce, salad, bread, dessert and beverage.
Admission costs $6 for adults, $4 for seniors or $3 for children younger than 12. Children younger than 3 get in free. A special family rate of $20 will be available.
In addition to the meal, the evening features a 50-50 cash raffle and silent auction.
