PORTLAND — Portland Sea Dogs’ outfielder Juan Carlos Linares has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the league’s opening week spanning April 5-15.
The 27-year old Linares, has played in all 11 games this season for the Sea Dogs hitting .415 (17-for-41) with three home runs and eight RBI. He is tied for the Eastern League lead in hitting (.415), tied for second in home runs (3), and ranks third in hits (17), on base percentage (.489), and slugging percentage (.707). He also leads the Eastern League with 27 total bases.
Linares, a native of Cuba, was signed by the Boston Red Sox as an international free agent on July 8, 2010. The 5- foot-11 righthanded slugger was limited to just 17 games with Triple-A Pawtucket last season due to injury. In his first professional season in the United States in 2010, he appeared in 13 games for the Sea Dogs.
