To the editor:

Now the propaganda starts!

Brunswick’s school system, a legend in their own minds, now is again asking that taxpayers give them more money to cover their lack of economic common sense.

As the last living member of Brunswick’s Board of Selectmen, I can remember to town meetings at which “ educators” would appear en masse until the vote on their budget was taken, and then they left.

The template is the same now as then: Gather up all the young parents and convince them that if the school system doesn’t receive massive infusions of cash, their little ones will atrophy and become wards of the state.

How can Brunswick correct the School Board’s lack of understanding, that the reason for their existence is based on the taxpayers being able to afford the best education?

The immediate problem can be corrected. By starting with last year’s budget, eliminate each new program and expenditure. Do this in increments of 10 years, and forget the “tingle” you got in your leg as each new expenditure was approved.

We who are observers of the fiasco that we now call local government always hope for better, but get thrown aside by people who think the position is more important than the job.

Act like adults and show us that you can manage the town’s affairs as you would your own household.

Richard Lord,
Brunswick
