Two Portland men have been arrested in connection with a baseball bat attack in Standish this weekend.
At 10:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call from 8 Holiday Lane in Standish’s Pine Tree Estates, to a report of an aggravated assault.
Upon arrival, deputies established that three people had been the victim of beating with a baseball bat. An alert was broadcast for the suspect vehicle and Lt. Thomas Williams spotted the vehicle in Buxton shortly after 11 p.m.
The assault victims were Shane Wescott, 25, of 8 Holiday Lane, Standish, his brother, Ryan Wescott, 29, of 40 Birch Drive, Standish, and Nathan Huff, of 1323 Cape Road, Limington. The Wescott brothers were transported to Maine Medical Center with serious head injuries.
Witnesses at the crime scene reported that two males operating a red Ford Explorer beat the Wescott brothers with a baseball bat and a crowbar. The witnesses told police they knew the identity of one of the suspects: Peter Tracy, 22, of 41 N. Greenleaf St., Portland. The third victim, Huff, advised deputies that he tried to intervene to help his friends when he was also assaulted by Tracy with an aluminum baseball bat. The alleged reason for the attack, according to Huff, was because one of the victims is dating Tracy’s ex-girlfriend.
Tracy and Richard Nichols, 23, of 22 Smith St., Portland, were arrested and are being held on $25,000 cash bail each at Cumberland County Jail for the Aggravated Assault.
Arrested on a separate and unrelated warrant for failure to appear for operating under the influence was Colleen McMullin, 22, of 3 Watchic Road, Standish, who was also in Wescott’s vehicle when it was stopped in Buxton.
