Two teams from the Greater Portland Women’s Ice Hockey League won division championships at the She-Wolves Women’s Hockey Tournament in Wolfeboro, N.H.

The Maine Coon Cats, with players ranging from age 20 to 56, won the recreational division, and the Breakaways, a team of players who are mostly over 40, finished first in the “D” Division. The tournament consisted of four games for each team.

The Coon Cats earned two wins and two ties in their four games, and were declared champions based on goals scored. Amy Roy of Portland led the team with four goals, Gina Iaconeta of Gray and Tessa Prince of Portland each had three goals, and Felicia Mazzone of Scarborough allowed a total of five goals.

The Breakaways won all four games, as goalie Laura Matheson of Freeport gave up one goal in the entire tournament.

The Maine Indians finished second in the 45+ Wood Bat division at the Men’s Senior Baseball League’s Las Vegas Kickoff Classic, held March 10-12.

After going 2-1 in the round-robin stage, the Indians posted back-to-back victories in the playoff round, using a six-run rally in the ninth inning to earn an 8-5 win over top-seeded La Matanzas of Los Angeles in the semifinals.

In the championship game, the Indians lost 10-3 to the 3n2 Rangers, a team comprised of players from both coasts.

Dan Proctor and Ed Simmons were the winning pitchers for the Indians in the quarterfinals and semifinals, and Clair Crandall earned a save in the quarterfinals. The Indians also got key contributions from Mike Foshay and Barry Woodbury.

Carissa Conner April, a Yarmouth native and Freeport High graduate, was inducted into the College of Wooster’s “W” Association Hall of Fame.

April, a 1992 Wooster graduate, was a Division III All-American in field hockey and also played lacrosse for two years. After graduation, she joined the Coast Guard, and also was a field hockey official at the college level for several years.

Gerard Guillerault aced the second hole at Biddeford & Saco Country Club on March 22. Guillerault used a 6-iron for the 183-yard shot, which was witnessed by John Jordan.

Ben Bell aced the 96-yard 13th hole at Sanford Country Club on Saturday. Bell used a sand wedge for the shot, which was his first hole-in-one. It was witnessed by Todd Bell and Dan Principe.

Andy Arey and Peter Stuart each recorded a hole-in-one at Rockland Golf Club on Sunday. Arey aced the 176-yard, 10th hole, using a 5-iron. His shot was witnessed by Bill Willis, Jason Willis and Whiz White. Stuart’s shot was on the 220-yard, ninth hole, using a 3-wood. His playing partners were Drew Long, Skip Heald and Randy Hooper.
