Brad was born in Lewiston August 13, 1943 a son of John D. and Irene (Vincent) Payne. He was educated in local schools and following high school, he attended and graduated from Norwich University with a degree in economics.
Brad was a Military Veteran of the Army having served his country in the 79th Transportation Company during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime Lewiston Auburn Businessman, as he owned and operated Payne Insurance Agency for many years. Following his retirement from his many years in business, Brad graduated from the Down East School of Massage and opened his own business known as Brunswick Therapeutic Massage.
Over the years, Brad enjoyed taking road trips and fishing, which included chartering tuna boats. He was also a member of a number of organizations and groups including The National Board of Youth Hockey. With his retirement, he engaged his free time playing casino slots, attending his Wednesday night VA “men’s” group, spending time at the coast and traveling to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to be with his longtime friend and very special companion Loraine Snapp.
Brad was a loving father who was well known for his sense of humor, quick wit, sarcasm, love of fine food and generosity. All of these qualities will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
We would like to thank the medical team at the VA hospital and hospice care unit. You were all so understanding and helpful. A special thank you goes to all of the staff at the Patriots Place that took the time to make sure Brad was so well cared for, Dr. Lutostanska, A. Bryant NP, Dr. Camenga and Jody (case manager) Thank you so very much for all of your efforts, research, networking and hours of exploring every possible option to provide the best possible care for our father. It was very much appreciated.
He leaves His son John Payne of Lewiston; His daughter Shannon Labbe and husband Michael of Brunswick; Four grandchildren Kailey Payne, Megen Poulin, Thomas Labbe, and Lauren Labbe; his longtime companion Loraine Snapp of Michigan and nephews Douglas Payne of Lewiston and Dwight Payne of Lewiston.
Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church Fri. 11 AM. Interment will take place in the family lot at Mt. Hope Cemetery at a later date. At his request, there are no visiting hours. A service of The Fortin Group Funeral Home, Cremation and Monument Service, Lewiston & Auburn, 784-4584.
