NORFOLK, Va. — D.J. Voisine and Luke Morrill combined on a six-hitter, and Troy Black drove in four runs as the University of Maine completed a four-game sweep of Norfolk State with a 9-1 baseball win Sunday.
Voisine allowed one run and four hits in seven innings. Tyler Patzalek went 3 for 4 with two RBI.
ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS SUFFOLK: Nic Lops hit a two-run single in the eighth inning as the Monks (16-2, 4-0 GNAC) completed a doubleheader sweep of Suffolk (5-13-1, 0-2) with a 4-2 victory after winning the opener 13-2 at Quincy, Mass.
The Monks turned three double plays in the second game, and freshman reliever Alex Valenti pitched four innings to earn his first win. Alec Lorenc gave the Monks a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a two-run double.
Alex Markakis was 4 for 4 with three runs scored in the opener, and Mike Pratt was 3 for 5 with two RBI. Zach Raffery (4-0) struck out six and allowed six hits in six scoreless innings.
USM SPLITS WITH RIC: Ben Ives pitched an eight-hitter as Southern Maine (8-8, 1-1 Little East) beat Rhode Island College 6-3 in the first game of a doubleheader at Providence, R.I.
Forrest Chadwick paced the Huskies’ offense with a triple and two singles.
RIC scored seven runs in the seventh inning to win the second game, 10-8, despite three hits and three RBI by USM’s Tucker White.
SOFTBALL
ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS SUFFOLK: Maddie Kluna pitched a shutout in the opener and Theresa Hendrix allowed two hits in the second game as the Monks (14-4, 9-1 GNAC) earned a pair of wins against Suffolk (9-12, 3-8) at Boston, 4-0 and 13-1.
Maria Labbe had three hits and three RBI in the first game.
Heather Tripp drove in four runs in the five-inning second game.
UNE SPLITS WITH ENDICOTT: Kelly Reid struck out nine and Amanda Vaudreuil drove in two runs to lead the University of New England (9-5, 3-1 Commonwealth Coast) to a 5-1 win over Endicott (9-6, 5-1) in the first game of a doubleheader at Biddeford.
Endicott won the second game, 4-2.
Adrienne Chase and Casey Brigham each had an RBI double for UNE in the opener.
Jessica Potter went 3 for 3 in the second game, and Vaudreuil and Ashley Gott each drove in a run.
BOWDOIN SPLITS WITH HUSSON: Amy Hackett tripled, homered and drove in three runs for Bowdoin (13-8) in a 6-0 win over Husson (10-6), but the Eagles salvaged a split with a 6-5 victory in the second game, at Bangor.
Melissa DellaTorre held Husson to three hits in the opener, with eight strikeouts and no walks. Toni DeCampo had an RBI single and a home run for Bowdoin.
Hackett tied the second game with a three-run homer in the fifth, but Husson’s Heidi Shaw scored on an error in the sixth.
COLBY SWEEPS MAINE MARITIME: Brianne Wheeler hit a three-run homer in the opener and drove in a another run in the second game as Colby (4-10) earned 4-3 and 4-2 victories over Maine Maritime (7-5) at Castine.
Erin Caputo scored the winning run in the opener on an error in the sixth inning.
ALBANY 8, MAINE 0: Brittany MacFawn recorded 10 strikeouts and gave up three hits in five innings as Albany (18-7, 5-1 America East) posted a mercy-rule win over the Black Bears (6-22, 0-3), at Albany, N.Y.
MEN’S LACROSSE
BOWDOIN 9, WILLIAMS 6: The Polar Bears (7-1, 4-1 NESCAC) held Williams (2-5, 1-4) scoreless for a 33-minute stretch on their way to a win at Brunswick.
Mark Flibotte scored four goals for the 14th-ranked Polar Bears, who erased an early 4-1 deficit. Billy Bergner scored the tying goal 35 seconds into the second half and Conor O’Toole got the go-ahead goal.
Chris Williamson finished with 10 saves for Bowdoin, including five in the fourth quarter.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
BOWDOIN 9, WILLIAMS 8: Elizabeth Clegg scored the winning goal with 5:11 left as Bowdoin (5-3, 4-2 NESCAC) edged Williams (3-5, 0-5) at Williamstown, Mass.
Carolyn Gorajek led the Polar Bears with four goals and an assist. Clegg finished with two goals, and Katie Herter had a goal and an assist.
BATES 16, WELLESLEY 6: Maggie Reilly, Jenna Dannis and Kathy Yannopoulos scored three goals apiece as Bates (5-4) overpowered Wellesley (3-5) at Wellesley, Mass.
The Bobcats led 6-1 at halftime and stretched it to 14-4 midway through the second half with four goals in a 2:14 span.
