IT PAYS to make goals. And even without “pay,” per se, just knowing one’s hard effort is paying off can be rewarding enough. According to Mary Ellen Cooper of Brunswick, left, her granddaughter Isabella April, front, is a third-generation Girl Scout and she set an ambitious goal to sell 400 boxes of cookies this year. She exceeded everyone’s expectations and sold 477 boxes. According to Cooper, “when she delivered the cookies, many people asked if she got a prize for selling so many. She held her head proudly and responded that there was no prize.” The industrious 9-year-old went door-todoor with her mother or grandmother at her side as well as making many phone calls. She’s a fourth-grader at Hussey Elementary School in Berwick. Her mother, Karen April, right, grew up in Bowdoinham.
