OTISFIELD ( AP) — Officials say a 65-year-old man has been hospitalized with chest and leg injuries after his single-engine plane made a crash landing onto an icecovered lake in southern Maine.

Maine State Police said 65- year- old James Schaff, of Gray, crashed his floatplane shortly after noon Saturday on Pleasant Lake in Otisfield, about 30 miles northwest of Portland. Police said Schaff ’s plane struck the ice nose-first after he attempted to take off from the lake, where he has a home.

He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Maine State Police, the Maine Warden Service, the Oxford County Sheriff ’s Department and the Otisfield Fire Department responded to the call.
