WESTBROOK – The school committee voted 6-1 tonight to close Prides Corner Elementary School.
The vote is the second and final vote, confirming the closure of the 60-year-old school. The process, school officials said, now turns to transition to a new, reconfigured elementary school system in the city’s remaining three elementary schools.
Committee Member James Violette cast the only no vote. He said he did not feel a number of details regarding the consolidation, such as busing issues and start times, had been worked out. He called the vote “putting the cart before the horse.”
Built in 1950, and renovated in 1965 and 1988, the Prides Corner School needs $2.8 million in work done. (Staff photo by Sean Murphy)
