Portland police confirmed that a man was shot by U.S. marshals on Mellen Street earlier this evening.
Police said the man, who was being sought by the marshals, was taken to the hospital with what they said was non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said they were not yet releasing the suspect’s name and why marshals were looking for him. More details are expected later tonight.
6:52: Shooting reported on Mellen Street
PORTLAND – Police converged on Mellen Street between Cumberland Avenue and Sherman streets after receiving an unconfirmed report of a shooting this evening.
Police on the scene refused to provide any details, but about a half-dozen cruisers, a K-9 unit and U.S. marshals were conferring in the area after the shooting was reported about 5:30 p.m. Several of the units began to depart by about 6:30 p.m.
Officers on the scene said the Portland Police Department was expected to put out a release tonight explaining what happened.
