CASTINE — Alexa Barry scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Bowdoin College women’s basketball team to a 74-48 win over Maine Maritime Academy on Wednesday evening.
The Polar Bears improved to 13-5 this winter while the Mariners dropped to 8-8.
In addition to her career-high in scoring, Barry collected seven rebounds. Sara Binkhorst came off the bench to score 10 points with five rebounds and four assists. Sam Goda led Maine Maritime with 16 points.
Bowdoin never trailed and sprinted to a 22-6 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Polar Bears held the Mainers to just 17 percent shooting in the opening half and took a 35-19 edge heading into halftime. Bowdoin cruised in the second half to pick up their sixth win in their last eight outings.
The Polar Bears only shot 37.9 percent for the contest, but held a 52-40 edge in rebounding and forced 17 turnovers in the win.
Maggie Smith of Bath had six points and nine rebounds in 31 minutes for MMA.
Bowdoin is scheduled to return to action with a key NESCAC home game against Colby on Saturday at 2 p.m.
