“American Idol” Kelly Clarkson is set to perform at America’s most popular sporting event: the Super Bowl.

Clarkson has been chosen to sing the national anthem before the game in Indianapolis on Feb. 5, a person familiar with Super Bowl entertainment plans told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because an announcement isn’t expected until later this month.

Since becoming the first winner of “American Idol” a decade ago, Clarkson has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and had more than a half-dozen singles reach the top 10 in the Billboard Hot 100.

Among her hit songs: “Since U Been Gone” and “My Life Would Suck Without You.” Her latest album, “Stronger,” was released last year. Clarkson is currently on tour and appeared as the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” last weekend.

Also scheduled to participate in the Super Bowl pregame festivities at Lucas Oil Stadium: country music couple Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, singing “America the Beautiful.”

Grammy-winner Lambert released her latest album, “Four the Record,” last fall. Shelton is a judge on “The Voice,” a singing competition on NBC, which is broadcasting the Super Bowl this year.

Others who have performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl include Carrie Underwood — like Clarkson, an “American Idol” product — Whitney Houston, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Neil Diamond, Beyonce and Mariah Carey.

Beyonce’s neonatal unit stay draws complaints

NEW YORK – New York health officials are investigating complaints that patients in a hospital neonatal unit were mistreated while Beyonce and Jay-Z were there giving birth to their daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, on Saturday.

Health department spokesman Michael Moran said it received two complaints about Manhattan’s Lenox Hill Hospital. Media reports said the couple paid $1 million to take over a floor, and that their security guard blocked parents from the neonatal unit for hours.

The hospital denied the reports, saying the couple paid the standard rate for an executive suite, but it did not disclose what that is.

Lohan hit with lien, lawsuit

LOS ANGELES – The U.S. government has filed a lien of nearly $94,000 on Lindsay Lohan’s assets, saying it’s what she still owes for the 2009 tax year.

The lien was filed last week in Los Angeles County.

Celebrity website TMZ first reported the lien Tuesday, the same day a paparazzo sued the model-actress for being in a car that allegedly struck him in Hollywood in 2010.

Lohan publicist Steve Honig said the starlet’s finances are nobody’s business but her own. As for photographer Grigor Balyan’s lawsuit seeking unspecified damages against Lohan, Honig said he hasn’t seen what was filed.

The actress is continuing to serve morgue duty to comply with her probation in a pair of misdemeanor cases.

Witness laments photog overkill

LONDON – The picture editor of Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper says he sees up to 400 photographs of the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister, Pippa Middleton, cross his desk every day.

Paul Silva says the younger sister of the former Kate Middleton typically has eight or nine photographers camped outside her door, even though he sees no need to constantly run photographs of Pippa.

Silva was answering questions at an inquiry into the ethics of the country’s media.
