GORHAM – A 35-year-old Gorham man who police say threatened another Gorham man with a knife was behind bars Tuesday with bail set at $100,000 cash, a spokesman at Cumberland County Jail in Portland said.
Sgt. Sears Edwards of the Gorham Police Department said in a report that Portland police arrested Robert Nowlin Sr. at 12:46 a.m. on Tuesday. Nowlin faces multiple charges, according to authorities.
A jail spokesman said Nowlin has been charged with two robberies, a burglary, criminal threatening, criminal mischief, obstructing report of a crime, operating under the influence, aggravated operating motor vehicle after habitual offender revocation, and failure to submit to arrest.
Edwards reported that the victim said Nowlin, a guest at the victim’s home in Friendly Village in South Gorham, had put a knife to his throat and demanded keys to the man’s vehicle at about 11:10 p.m. Monday. The suspect fled with the victim’s keys and cell phone.
Gorham police did not release the name of the victim.
Lt. Gary Rogers of Portland Police Department said Tuesday the suspect was nabbed on Allen Avenue in Portland. Rogers said a Portland police officer first spotted the suspect exiting a 7 Eleven store on Brighton Avenue in Portland.
Edwards initially had responded to Friendly Village following the report of a stolen vehicle, and Gorham Police Chief Ronald Shepard said Tuesday Gorham police put out an attempt-to-locate through dispatch.
“Portland was right on the ball,” Shepard said.
