GORHAM – Courtney Cochran hit two free throws with six seconds remaining to give the University of Southern Maine a 68-66 win Saturday over Babson in the championship game of the Southern Maine Holiday Invitational at Hill Gym.

Cochran finished with 18 points and three blocked shots. Nicole Garland also scored 18 points for the Huskies (8-3) and had four 3-pointers. Haley Jordan, the tourney MVP, contributed 14 points.

Sarah Collins scored 27 points for Babson (8-2).

CAL LUTHERAN 56, BOWDOIN 55: Erica Whitley scored 13 points and made 3 of 4 free throws in the closing seconds as the Kingsmen (6-4) held off the Polar Bears (7-3) at Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Kaitlin Donahue paced Bow-doin with 18 points. Alexa Barry added 15 points and 13 rebounds.

WPI 68, ST. JOSEPH’S 58: David Brown scored 18 points to lead Worcester Polytechnic Institute (9-2) over St. Joseph’s (6-2) at Worcester, Mass.

The Monks were led by Chris Petzy with 19 points. Zach O’Brien added 16 points and Tom Ray finished with 10.

SPRINGFIELD 72, UNE 48: The Pride (8-3) used a 22-0 run in the second half to pull away from the Nor’easters (0-7) in the opening round of the Hampton Inn West Springfield/Naismith Classic at Springfield, Mass.

Marcus Winn led UNE with 14 points.

MEN’S HOCKEY

SOUTHERN MAINE 4, SUNY POTSDAM 4: Potsdam (5-5-1) scored two power-play goals in the final three minutes of regulation to earn a tie against the Huskies (4-4-1) at the Middlebury College Holiday Classic in Middlebury, Vt.

Tom Gosselin, Matt Tucceri, Dan Rautenberg and Matt MacDonald scored for USM.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

COLBY 2, NICHOLS 1: Caroline Chessare scored her first goal of the season at 10:56 of the third period to give the Mules (4-5-1) a victory over the Bison (4-7-1) at the St. Michael’s Tournament in South Burlington, Vt.

Nichols took the lead in the second period on a power-play goal by Grace Murphy. Samantha Slotnick tied it for the Mules just 23 seconds later on a goal set up by Marissa Simmons and Lauren Guarente.
