BIDDEFORD – Bobby Cote scored 21 of his 27 points in the second half as Biddeford erased a 13-point halftime deficit and earned a 67-53 win over Westbrook in a Southern Maine Activities Association boys’ basketball game Friday night.

The Tigers (3-2) trailed 39-26 at halftime but outscored Westbrook 20-6 in the third quarter. Cote’s shot from just over mid-court at the end of the third quarter gave Biddeford a 46-46 lead.

Nate McKeown and Cameron Nadeau each hit a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter to help the Tigers pull away.

Nguot Ngout scored 20 points and Noah Collins had 13 for Westbrook (2-3).

THORNTON ACADEMY 51, MASSABESIC 48: Connor McCrum scored two inside baskets late in the fourth quarter to help Thornton Academy (3-2) escape with a victory over Massabesic (1-4) at Saco.

The Trojans led 30-21 at halftime and increased their cushion to 12 after three quarters. Massabesic then rallied to take the lead briefly before McCrum rescued Thornton.

Justin Pollard led the Trojans with 16 points. Jackson Boisse and Jacob Desrochers each had 13 points for Massabesic.

BONNY EAGLE 69, GORHAM 35: Dustin Cole scored 17 points to lead the Scots (4-1) to a win over the Rams (0-5) at Gorham.

C.J. Autry (13 points), Nick Wayne (12), Cole Libby (11) and Ben Malloy (10) also reached double figures.

CHEVERUS 74, NOBLE 22: Shawn Grover scored eight of his 10 points in the first quarter as the visiting Stags (5-0) took control from the outset against the Knights (0-5).

Noah Stebbins led Cheverus with 13 points. James Kapothanasis added 12.

MASSABESIC 58, THORNTON ACADEMY 47: Morgan Reny had 18 points, five steals and five assists to help the Mustangs (1-3) beat the Golden Trojans (3-1) at Waterboro.

Emily Schatz added 12 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks for Massabesic. She scored eight points in the second quarter as the Mustangs used a 19-13 run to build a 33-20 lead.

Meghan Agger scored 19 points for Thornton. Olivia Shaw added 16.

WESTBROOK 44, BIDDEFORD 32: Paige Baldwin scored 14 points and Megan Niehoff had 12 for the Blue Blazes (2-3), who finished the third quarter with a 9-0 run to take control against visiting Biddeford (1-4).

Ashlee Richards added 10 rebounds and seven steals for the Blue Blazes. Bryanna Michaud scored 10 points for Biddeford, which closed to within 23-21 before Westbrook’s third-quarter run.

SCARBOROUGH 50, PORTLAND 38: Ashley Briggs and Mary Redmond scored 12 points apiece to lead Scarborough (5-0) past visiting Portland (0-6).

Carly Rogers added 11 points for the Red Storm. Angie Reali scored 11 points for Portland.

CHEVERUS 52, NOBLE 18: Alexandra Palazzi-Leahy scored 17 points to lead the Stags (5-0) past the Knights (1-4) at Portland.

Cheverus took four charges and limited Noble to five points in the first half.

BOYS’ HOCKEY

SOUTH PORTLAND 2, GORHAM 1: Brendan Horton’s power-play goal in the second period lifted the Red Riots (2-3) over the Rams (3-2) at Gorham.

Gorham took the lead 50 seconds into the second period on a goal by Chris Hardy. Andrew Whipple tied it at 9:38, and Horton scored the winner at 12:53.

FRYEBURG ACADEMY/LAKE REGION 4, BONNY EAGLE 3: Dakota Russo scored on a power play with 1:31 left to give the Ice Cats (2-2) a win over the Scots (1-4) at Bridgton.

GIRLS’ HOCKEY

FALMOUTH 7, BIDDEFORD 1: Megan Fortier scored four goals and added an assist for Falmouth (8-0) in a victory over Biddeford (2-6) at Biddeford Ice Arena.
