
The Greyhounds didn’t exactly light it up in the second half either, but a determined defensive effort held the Saints to a mere 10 points in the final 16 minutes of a 32- 29 victory.
Lisbon improved to 1- 2, while St. Dom’s dropped to 0- 3.
“We played very well in the defensive zone in the second half, and managed to score 20 points,” said Lisbon first-year coach Julie Wescott, who earned her first varsity basketball coaching victory. The Greyhounds will look for a second straight win tonight at rival Wiscasset (7 p.m.).
The Saints led 7-4 after a quarter and by seven at the half, but Lisbon rallied to close to 22- 21 after three frames.
Jess Campbell paced the Greyhounds with 14 points, while Bailey Madore chipped in six.
Mary Caron led St. Dom’s with 13 points.
MT. ARARAT 46 ERSKINE 23
In Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference action Friday in South China, Caitlin LaFountain scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds as the Eagles improved to 2-1. Erskine fell to 1-2.
Mt. Ararat, scheduled to host Skowhegan on Tuesday, led 17-0, 28-6 and 40-13 at the quarter breaks.
Mallory Nelson and Leah Hitchcock chipped in with nine points each, while Kristi Willey had eight. Nelson also pulled down 10 rebounds and Hitchcock had nine.
Bridget Humphrey led Erskine with eight points and Meryl Bond had six.
The Eagles shot 18 of 59 from the floor and six of 12 from the foul line, while Erskine was eight of 48 from the floor and six of 18 from the line.
MARANACOOK 43 MORSE 42
The visiting Black Bears ruined Morse’s home opener, outscoring the Shipbuilders 21- 6 in the third quarter and holding on for a KVAC Class B victory at Bath on Friday.
“Maranacook didn’t do anything different, but we unraveled in the third quarter,” said Morse (1-1) coach Mike Hart, whose squad travels to Gardiner on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. “We were able to rally to tie the game (40-40) late and had several chances to come out on top.”
Morse led 14-11 after a quarter and 19-17 at the half before falling behind 38-25 after 24 minutes.
Brianna Bigelow led the Shipbuilders with 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Katie Henrikson chipped in eight points, and Tori Field and Kerry Cummings seven each. Sadia Crosby had a team-high 10 caroms. Morse finished seven of 18 from the foul line.
Hannah Cumler and Hannah Clough paced Maranacook (1-2) with 13 and nine points, respectively. The Black Bears were 12 of 27 from the charity stripe.

Ruth Towne paced the host Guardians with 22 points and 12 boards as the visiting Phoenix fell to 0-2 with a loss at South Berwick on Friday.
Kara Fischer led Hyde, which is off until Jan. 4, with 19 points.
Tied 8-8 after a quarter, the 2-1 Guardians jumped ahead 18- 13 at the half and 32- 19 after three quarters.
WISCASSET 42 CARRABEC 52
In MVC play Friday in North Anson, Carrabec’s defense wore down visiting Wiscasset, which trailed 12-6, 26-19 and 38-31 at the quarter breaks.
“We were tied in the third quarter, but Carrabec’s fullcourt pressure forced costly turnovers” said Wiscasset coach Patrick Quinn. “The girls played hard and were competitive throughout.”
Kayla Connors led Wiscasset (0-3 and scheduled to host Lisbon tonight) with 17 points, while Heidi Pinkham had 12 and Bri Goud 10. Connors and Goud also picked up 12 rebounds each.
Emma Pluntke led Carrabec with 19 points and Jocelyn Jackson chipped in with 13.
FREEPORT 25 LAKE REGION 49
In Western Maine Conference play on Saturday, the visiting Falcons fell to 2-1 and are scheduled to visit York on Tuesday.
Freeport trailed 14-6, 24-17 and 34- 24 at the quarter breaks.
Nina Davenport paced Freeport with 12 points and Jocelyn Davee had four, while Leigh Wyman, Vanessa Lee, Morgan Brown and Alex Mitch were offensive contributors.
Tiana-Jo Carter led the 4-0 Lakers with 15 points and Sydney Hancock chipped in with 10.
RICHMOND 40 GREENVILLE 32
Jamie Plummer had 17 points and nine rebounds as the visiting Bobcats outlasted host Greenville in East-West Conference action on Friday.
Tied 7- 7 after a quarter, Richmond (3-0) jumped ahead 24-18 at the half and led 35-24 after three.
“We were getting beat to the ball a lot and had a ‘panic’ moment, but we still managed to come out on top,” said Richmond coach Molly Bishop, whose team is slated to host Rangeley on Tuesday at 5: 30 p. m. “ We have a lot to work on in practice.”
Alyssa Pearson came off the bench to chip in nine points and block three shots for the Bobcats, while Danica Hurley had six points, seven steals and seven assists.
Kaylee Warman paced 1-2 Greenville with 10 points, while Miranda Drinkwater and Karli Peat each scored eight.
Richmond was four of 14 from the foul line, while the Lakers finished six of 11.
