WISCASSET
Huber’s Market along Route 1 in Wiscasset swung back into business Tuesday after a fire damaged the building nearly a year ago.
The renovation “ was a long, long process,” owner Kyle Yacoben said in a phone interview, “ but we got through it and had a lot of help and support from the community.”
With the reopening, Yacoben said he was able to bring back about eight employees who were put out of work after the Dec. 27, 2011, fire took out the building that has operated as Huber’s since 1965. Yacoben assumed ownership of the market in 2007.
As part of the new opening, Yacoben said the market and kitchen will now offer smoked barbecue alongside the pizza, sandwiches and other to-go items it offered before. The store also added more seating for dine-in customers, Yacoben said.
After a year of construction and renovations, Yacoben said it felt good to see familiar faces in the market on Tuesday.
“I didn’t get to see the people who I had known for years and it was nice to see them here again,” Yacoben said.
Yacoben said regulars had no problem rediscovering the market for the grand reopening, but a new phone number has been a challenge.
The number is now 882-7887 and a website is in the works at hubersmarket.com.
