BRUNSWICK
Bowdoin College’s studentrun Common Good Grant Committee is now accepting proposals for a $10,000 pool of funds.
Local nonprofit organizations — serving Brunswick, Harpswell, Georgetown, Phippsburg, Freeport, Topsham, Bath, Bowdoinham, Woolwich, Lisbon, Lisbon Falls, Bowdoin, and Yarmouth — are invited to apply, according to a press release from the college.
Last year, grant recipients included ArtVan, Caring Resources for Living, Coffin Elementary School, Freeport Middle School STEM Teachers, Riding to the Top, Seeds of Independence, Sexual Assault Support Services of Mid Coast Maine, Topsham Public Library, Trust for our Future, and Youth Alternatives Ingraham.
This is the 11th year that the 12-member student committee has distributed the funds, which come from an anonymous $10,000 donation each year.
Proposals, postmarked by Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, should be submitted to the Common Good Grant Committee at the McKeen Center for the Common Good. Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision before Monday, April 2 and final grants will be awarded on Wednesday, April 11, at Bowdoin’s Common Good Grant Awards Ceremony.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
