Do you either work for a living or enjoy the retirement that you earned? You might want to move somewhere outside the United States because there are those who think they deserve your money, too.

The problem is they feel entitled to your money without having to work for a living instead. What’s even more surprising is that most of us don’t know who these people are who want our money. That shouldn’t be surprising because the government educated most of those who now want your money. President Obama and Congresswoman Nanny Pelosi support the group that wants your money but do you know who they are?

When I was growing up, my parents and teachers instilled in me the will to study and work hard in order to live a better life than they did. Growing up poor was another stimulus for me because I didn’t want to remain poor all my life. Yes, I wanted to be rich and I was taught the way to get there was through an honest day’s work.

Things have drastically changed since my younger days because of a statement by a college student at Valencia College in Florida. A professor at that college asked students, “What do you want the federal government to do to help you achieve that (American) dream?” That student stated, “As human beings we are really not responsible for our own acts, and so we need government to control those who don’t care about others.”

The scary part of that professor’s survey was that approximately 80 percent of students wanted the federal government to provide them with whatever they needed like free healthcare, free education and free money to buy a car or house. It’s even sadder that only 10 percent wanted the government out of their lives.

The one thing I understand about government is that it is not free because it runs on our tax dollars. If 80 percent of those students want to live off the 10 percent who work (guess the missing 10 percent of students are smoking dope or can’t read or write), none of them will have enough money to live on. If one thinks it would work, please look no further than the collapse of the Soviet Union where the people pretended to work and the government pretended to pay them.

I guess now I know where the Occupy Wherever movement has its roots. Most appear to be young and probably never had a job in their life. What’s worse is that many look like they could never hold a job for any length of time. It’s not that I am all for the huge multinational corporations that exist today, which practically own everything on this planet, but sitting around wanting other people’s money isn’t helping our country either.

Unfortunately, every political movement of one kind or another also attracts many of a less desirable crowd, except one. Especially in light of the Occupy movement, I find it amazing that the Tea Party abided by the law, sought permits if necessary and had no violence or mayhem at their rallies.

It’s no wonder Obama and Pelosi support the Occupy movement. They all agree that they should receive more government money while the Tea Party wanted to give them far less. I think I understand now.

Lane Hiltunen, of Windham, believes everyone should get something for nothing. Maybe that’s what Heaven is all about. None of us deserve that either. It’s a gift. And if that’s not the message of Christmas, he doesn’t know what is.
