Streaks for Cancer

Amy Denecker, librarian at Windham High School, has recently learned that her 3-year-old daughter, Alice, sadly has a form of cancer called neuroblastoma. In an attempt to help the Deneckers fight this terrible disease, the Interact Club is holding a fundraiser on Friday, Dec. 9, at the boys’ first home basketball game. Taylor Paige-Harrison, a stylist who started Streaks for Cancer, a means for stylists to dye strands of hair pink throughout October to honor breast cancer awareness, will be at the game to add streaks of blue, Alice’s favorite color, in people’s hair during the game for a small fee. The streaks are made from a hair-friendly tinsel as opposed to dye. Interact will also be selling blue and white “I support Alice” bracelets for $3. Goodies and gifts

Tis the season for giving and indulging in delicious treats, and the Raymond Village Library is here to help you do both. This year’s annual holiday bake sale will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tables will be filled with delicious pastries, decorated cookies, candies, pies, fancy breads and all kinds of scrumptious treats presented in festive wrappings, all to help cut down on your holiday baking or for gift giving. In addition, they will be selling unique, reasonably priced holiday gift baskets throughout the month of December. Not only are you getting a lovely present for someone, but you are supporting your library at the same time.

A Hawthorne Christmas

Events by Jana, a certified events planner located right here in Raymond, will be hosting an exciting Christmas-themed Victorian Nutcracker Tea at the historic Nathanial Hawthorne House on Cape Road on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. Period costumes, great food, music and a few surprises wait all who attend. Space is limited so please call 655-9136 to make a reservation. The cost is $20 per person, which will benefit the restoration and preservation of this treasured gem we have right here in town.

Get your trees

Once again, the Raymond Lions Club will be selling Christmas trees next to the Good Life Market on Route 302 during the holiday season. The sale will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Dec.r 10, 11, 17, and 18 and as required by the Lions’ bi-laws, 100 percent of all fundraising profits will be donated back to the Raymond community. The Lions provide services to many groups including offering college scholarships, stocking the food pantry, supporting the Raymond Village Library, providing eyeglasses and diabetes assistance, and many others. There will be a limited supply of trees and if you would like to pre-order or have other questions, please call Bob Wallace at 655-2222.

As a reminder, the Lions are the group which works in conjunction with the Raymond Village Library each year to provide the festive annual Christmas tree lighting we all enjoyed last weekend. Even on a balmy November snow-less evening, hot chocolate and cookies were the perfect ending to another remarkable performance by the Raymond Elementary School chorus. Santa arrived just in time to see the lights come on and listen to the Christmas wishes of the children. A sincere thank-you goes out to Bob Paine from Raymond Hill Christmas Trees who has donated a tree to this event every year. Lions’ members get the tree to the library and stand it by hand, purchase and hang the lights, make a contribution to Santa and his driver, pay for and serve the cookies and hot chocolate, and cover the additional CMP charges for the library throughout the season. With a core group of only five or six members, the Lions are seeking new members.
