Tim McGarry and Kyle Lockwood each had two goals and an assist to pace the scoring for Bowdoin. Jordan Lalor also scored twice, while Daniel Weiniger, Ryan Collier, Graham Sisson and Erik Olson accounted for the other Bowdoin goals. Freshmen Donald Chute, Danny Palumbo and Tim Coffey each had two assists.
Steve Messina and Connor Shannon combined on 22 saves for the Polar Bears.
Women’s basketball
Bowdoin opened the game on a 21-6 run and never looked back in a 69-53 win over the University of New England on Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears (3-0) are ranked 11th in the WBCA Division III poll and have won 16 straight games over the Nor’easters (2-1) dating back to 1994.
Jill Henrikson of Bath was outstanding for Bowdoin, scoring 21 points with 10 rebounds and seven steals for the hosts. Kaitlin Donahoe had 15 points and five assists, while Ellery Gould finished with 14 points and six boards. Amy Hackett also saw double figures with 12 points for the Polar Bears.
UNE got 17 points, seven caroms and four blocks from Kelley Paradis. Kelly Coleman pitched in 14 points and nine boards off the bench for the Nor’easters. Bath’s Beth Suggs played 29 minutes with eight rebounds and three assists.
The Polar Bears are slated to visit rival University of Southern Maine this upcoming Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Men’s basketball
Zach O’Brien and Chris Petzy combined for 55 points to lead St. Joseph’s to a 70-68 win over Bowdoin on Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.
The Monks improved to 2-0, while the Polar Bears fell to 2-1 and visit Husson University on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Petzy scored a game-high 33 points, including seven 3-pointers, while O’Brien added 22 points.
Bowdoin was led by 19 points from Ryan O’Connell, and 10 points with 11 boards from Will Hanley.
St. Joseph’s built a five-point lead at halftime, 39-34, thanks to seven first-half trifectas and 52.6 percent shooting from the field. The Monks extended the lead to 52-40 on a Petzy 3- pointer with 9:34 to play.
Back-to-back 3-pointers from Bowdoin’s Bryan Hurley and Tom Carter keyed a quick spurt for Bowdoin, which drew within four points, 54-50, on a Hanley dunk with 7:25 left.
The Monks iced the game by making 12 of 16 free throws down the stretch.
