The board of directors for the Scarborough Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO) announced the recipients of this year’s Outstanding Scarborough Business awards. The awards will be presented at the corporation’s 26th Annual Meeting taking place at the Black Point Inn on Monday, Oct. 3, 5-7:30 p.m.
The 2011 Outstanding Scarborough Businesses include: Bayley’s Camping Resort (Outstanding Legacy Business), Piper Shores (Outstanding Large Business), Kitchen & Cork (Outstanding Small Business), Hanson Field Flower Farm (Outstanding Micro Business) and The Little Dolphin School (An Outstanding Contribution to Community).
“The five businesses receiving awards this year value and appreciate their clients. With this customer-driven focus, they survive, and even thrive, in one of the worst economic climates in decades,” said Harvey Rosenfeld, SEDCO president and executive director.
Described as a celebration of business in Scarborough, the annual meeting features keynote speaker Robert Moody, Portland Symphony Orchestra’s music director. Since his appointment as music director in 2008, Moody has furthered the impressive reputation of the symphony through outstanding performances, innovative programming, and community collaborations.
“Scarborough is major player in the Greater Portland economy,” commented Rosenfeld. “As we market the region nationally and internationally, arts and the creative economy become an important part of our brand. Mr. Moody will help us understand the role of the arts in a regional economy, and what conditions are necessary for such organizations to thrive.”
SEDCO’s annual meeting is open to the public. Tickets are $15 in advance and may be purchased by clicking on the register button on the website www.scarborougheconomicdevelopment.com.
