Henry, Cink share the lead at Texas Open, but player’s 16 on par-4 hole grabs spotlight

J.J. Henry and former British Open champion Stewart Cink shot 5-under-par 67s Thursday to share the lead in the first round of the Texas Open at San Antonio, but the spotlight belonged to South Korean Kevin Na during a historic meltdown on No. 9.

Na set a PGA Tour record with a 16 on the par-4 ninth, chopping his way through a nightmarish hole during an otherwise solid first round. He was a combined 4 under on the other 17 holes to finish at 8-over 80.

Adam Scott, the defending champion, was a stroke back in his first round since his runner-up finish at the Masters.

EUROPEAN TOUR: Alexander Noren shot an 8-under 64 to take a two-stroke lead in the weather-shortened first round of the Malaysian Open at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

NFL: The NFL and its locked-out players launched a second round of mediation, this time under a court order, as they try to figure out a solution to their labor dispute.

It was the first time the sides have sat down to talk since March 11, when the old collective bargaining agreement expired, the union was dissolved to clear the way for a court fight and the NFL wound up with its first work stoppage since the monthlong strike in 1987.
