Spring Golf

The spring meeting for the Spring Meadow Golf League will take place on Wednesday, March 23, at 6 p.m. This event will be preceded with a social time at 5:30 p.m.

At the library

AARP Tax-Aide will be at the library to offer free tax assistance on Tuesday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tax assistance is by appointment only so please call the library.

On Wednesday, March 23, at 6:45 p.m., there will be a Family Astronomy Night at the library. Jay Sarton will be present at 6:45 p.m. to talk about stars and constellations. The event is free and open to all.

The Gray Public Library Association is hosting their Spring Book Sale on Saturday, March 26 from 9-2. Preview Night is on Friday, March 25 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. There is a $5 admission fee for Preview Night only. Prices are: Hard covers $1, paperbacks 50 cents, kids books hard covers 50 cents, paperbacks 25 cents, plus audio books, music, movies and buck a bag section.

On Thursday, March 31, at 6 p.m. the library will welcome Ten Apple Farm’s Margaret Hathaway. She will be hosting a free cheese and cider-tasting. Please note: The library will only be open after 6 p.m. for this event, we will not be open for regular library business after 6 p.m. on this day.

Theater, Theater

Death by Disco – Mystery Dinner Theater. Come see if you can guess “who done it.” Prizes to be given out to the winning table. Friday, March 18 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, April 2 at 6:30 p.m. at Spring Meadow Golf Club in Gray. Tickets are $29 per person or discounted to $219 for a table of 8. The Wonderful Wizard of OZ – Tickets are on sale now for this Fiddlehead Children’s Production. Four great shows at the Gray/New Gloucester High School. Evening shows on Saturday, March 19 and 26, 7 p.m. Matinee shows on Sunday, March 20 and 27 at 2 p.m. FMI, 657-2244 or www.fiddleheadcenter.org.

Eight o’clock rock

A 1950’s Sock Hop Dance to benefit the G-NG Basketball Program will be held at Spring Meadow Golf Club in Gray on Friday, March 25 from 8 p.m. until midnight. There will be prizes for best costume (optional), era trivia and Hoola Hoop contests. For 21 years or older, $15 for single, $25 for couple. Tickets can be purchased at the door. There will be a cash bar and a light snack available. Feel free to bring your own table treats.

Little League news

Gray Little League is looking for volunteers, men and women, ages 16 and up, willing to help umpire our Major Division games this year (both baseball and softball) and are offering an umpiring clinic for those who wish to help out.

The Annual Gray Little League Field Clean-up Day is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 9 (assuming the snow clears) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Summer applications are now available for Summer Day Camp Counselors & CIT’s (Counselor’s In Training). These are due back by April 15. We’ll begin interviews the following week. Even if you were on the staff in previous years- everyone must go through this process each year.

Earth Day celebration/clean-up on Friday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gray Parks and Recreation would like to organize a group to do some community clean-ups in celebration of Earth Day and are looking for groups or individuals to help them. Right now they are thinking Crystal Lake area, Libby Hill Trails and the Henry Pennell Municipal Complex/Newbegin Gymnasium fields. Let them know what you would like to do.

Saturday supper

Gray First Congregational Church will hold a Public Supper on Saturday, March 26, from 5-6 p.m. Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children under 12.

Menu includes: Baked Beans, casseroles, salad, homemade biscuits and pies are served in the Supper Room downstairs in the Church and it is handicapped accessible. Call 657-4279 or 657-3279 on the day of the event for more information.

Winterfest results

Thanks to all that came out for the 6th annual Gray Snowolves Winterfest. The trails were in excellent shape for the poker run, the radar run was a success, and they had some beautiful fish registered in the derby. The results from the fishing derby and radar run are as follows: Ice Fishing Derby: 1st Place: Greg Massey – 2.7-pound bass, 2nd Place: Mike Fickett – 1.7-pound rainbow, 3rd Place: Bill O’Neil – 1.2-pound rainbow, 4th Place: Shawn Rioux – 1.0-pound pickerel, 5th Place: Joe Barker – .8-pound Brown.
