WAYNE, N.J. – Brianna Lucas scored 22 points to lead William Paterson to a 58-53 victory over Colby on Saturday night in the second round of the NCAA Division III women’s basketball tournament.
Colby (22-6) had a 31-27 halftime lead and led a number of times in the second half, including their final lead of 53-52 when Aarika Ritchie hit a jumper with 4:23 to play. Those were the final points of the game for the Mules.
Jules Kowalski led Colby with 16 points and four steals. She finished her career with 1,059 points and 749 rebounds.
Rachael Mack finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Ritchie had 13 points and six assists.
UNE 64, WPI 58: Kelley Paradis scored 20 points as the top-seeded Nor’easters (23-7) defeated the Engineers in an ECAC Division III New England semifinal in Biddeford.
UNE fell behind 27-22 at halftime and trailed 32-24 two minutes into the second half. UNE rallied with an 18-3 run over the next 7:22 to take the lead for good.
Carrie Bunnell added 15 points for the Nor’easters and Margo Russell finished with 14 points.
Melissa Kuhn led WPI with 15 points.
USM 55, ENDICOTT 54: Erin McNamara hit a 3-pointer with 1:46 left in regulation and Courtney Cochran added a pair of key foul shots in the final minute as the second-seeded Huskies (18-10) held on for a win over the third-ranked Gulls (17-10) in the semifinals of the ECAC Division III New England tournament at Biddeford.
Cochran finished with 14 points and six rebounds to lead the Huskies, who will face top-seeded UNE in the championship at 2 p.m. today.
