GORHAM – A Gorham man remained held at Cumberland County Jail without bail this week following his arrest Jan. 13 on charges he led police on a 5-mile, high-speed chase through Standish and Windham.

Timothy J. Rosario, 31, 101 Brookwood Drive, faces charges of eluding a police officer, criminal speeding, operating after suspension, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and violating of conditional release following a run-in with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 5.

Sheriff’s deputy Capt. Jeff Davis said in a press release that a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on Jan. 5 at 8:35 p.m. that was traveling erratically in the area of Standish Neck Road in Standish.

The driver failed to stop for the deputy and accelerated to speeds in excess of 80 mph, Davis said. He led the deputy on a pursuit for 5.1 miles through rural areas of Standish and Windham before the deputy stopped the chase due to public safety concerns, Davis said.

He said the vehicle involved was a 2009 GMC van that was located unoccupied the next day in a parking lot in Westbrook. The van was towed and impounded pending further investigation, he said.

On Jan. 13, Rosario agreed to meet with investigators to discuss the incident. Following the meeting, Davis said, Rosario was arrested and charged in connection with the chase.

In addition to the charges relating to the chase, Rosario was charged with violating conditional release as a result of being released on a deferred disposition on a previous operating under the influence charge, Davis said.

County jail records indicated Tuesday Rosario remained held without bail. He is next due to appear in court in April.
