ACADIA NATIONAL PARK — A historic fire tower in Acadia National Park is being opened up to the public for a day.
Park rangers say the Beech Mountain fire tower will be open today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The fire tower is on the National Registry of Historic Fire Towers and is usually closed to the public.
The original wood tower on Beech Mountain was used from 1941 until the mid-1950s. It was later replaced with a steel tower that was manned sporadically from 1962 until 1976.
