PORTLAND — First baseman Anthony Rizzo had four hits, including a home run over the right field pavilion, but the Portland Sea Dogs still dropped today’s game at Hadlock Field 16-8 to the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

Sea Dogs pitchers allowed 18 hits and two walks. Starter Stephen Fife (6-4) took the loss, giving  up 11 of the runs over 3 1/3 innings.

Richmond took a 16-2 lead after the top of the fifth inning. Portland’s mild comeback attempt began with Rizzo’s homer over the 56-foot tall pavilion in the bottom of the fifth. He now has 14 home runs for Portland this year.

The Sea Dogs dropped to 54-60, remaining in fifth place in the Eastern League East Division. Portland begins a six-game road trip on Tuesday. The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field on Aug. 17.
