Ahhh summer
It may not officially start until mid-June, but my, oh my, what a fine Memorial Day weekend we had. The weather was just right here in Naples.
Busy town June 5
Sign-ups for the Naples Recreation swim program take place June 5 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Naples Town Office. For information, contact Harvey Price at 693-6364. Then head on over to the 2nd Annual Songo Garden Club Plant Sale. The club will have over 500 perennials and house plants for sale straight from members’ gardens. A bake and white elephant sale are also planned, so maybe stop there first before all the treasures are gone! Don’t miss signing up for the two person patio swing the club will be raffling off thanks to the generous donation of that item by Home Depot of Windham. At 2 p.m., a memorial bench will be dedicated to longtime garden club member and friend Tom Galloway of Naples. Questions can be directed to club President Kathy Silva at 693-4732. This sale is rain or shine.

Naples Main Street
The Naples Main Street Committee recently held a contest to find an inviting logo for our beautiful town. Congratulations go to Susanne Premo and Keli Forke, co-winners in the 2009 Naples Main Street Logo Contest. Both turned in outstanding artwork that was then blended into one final logo by graphic designer Jacob Lear of The Print House in Windham. Both Naples residents received $50 from Naples Main Street.
The creation of a new logo is just one of several things that are occurring along Route 302 or Naples Main Street. In addition to the ongoing work and plans under way for the new bridge and expansion of the town area (drawings can be seen at Tony’s Foodland or Norway Savings Bank in Naples), the Singer Community Center in the town green, is now open, as well.
Home to Casco/Naples Before/After Care and Grange No. 94, the Edward I. Singer Community Center was given to the town several years ago by Karen Singer Wright, daughter of Edward Singer. With much work from a special committee, chaired by Dona Forke of Naples, along with funds obtained from a Community Development Block Grant, the building was officially opened last year.
For more information on Naples Main Street, contact President Connie Eldridge at Coldwell Banker Lakes Region Properties, 693-7000.
