One of the seven candidates vying for three seats on the Cape Elizabeth School Board at the polls Nov. 3 has withdrawn from the race, according to the town.

Ruth Anne Haley, of 49 Brentwood Road, withdrew from the race for family reasons, according to a posting on the town’s Web site.

Haley had taken out nomination papers for school board and returned them with the required number of signatures of registered voters in town. However, her name won’t be on the ballot because the final ballot order had not yet been made when she notified the town of her withdrawal on Sept. 22, according to Debra Lane, the town clerk.

Haley’s withdrawal leaves a field of six candidates competing for the three, three-year School Board seats.

The candidates now are: Peter H. Cotter, of 21 Ocean House Road; John C. Christie III, 6 Albion Road; Frederic K. Sturtevant, of 9 Pond View Road; and Mary K. Williams-Hewitt, of 250 Ocean House Road; David C. Hillman, of 22 Cranbrook Drive; and Richard B. Dunham, of 30 Ocean View Road.

The three school board seats up for election are now held by Patricia Brigham, Karen Burke and Cotter. Cotter is the only one of the three seeking re-election.
