Early registration is under way for the Loon Echo Land Trust’s 9th Annual Hike n’ Bike Trek.
The discounted “early-bird” registration for the Sept. 19 event, which supports Loon Echo’s land conservation and protection efforts, runs through July 31.
Bikers can choose to ride 25, 50, or 100 miles and hikers will trek six miles on Pleasant Mountain, Loon Echo’s largest land preserve. Participants who raise a minimum of $200 in pledges will be given hand-crafted loon heads to mount on their helmets and hats during the Trek.
The loon heads are the innovation of “Loony Girls” Kim Cronin of Bridgton, Karen Schroeder of Waterford and Paula Holt of Harrison, who are also providing hand-crafted loon tail feathers to hikers and bikers who raise $100 or more in pledges.
“We hope to see flocks of loons riding and hiking on Trek day,” said Elizabeth Rand, Trek Committee chairwoman.
The Trek is Loon Echo Land Trust’s principal fundraising event.
Registration instructions, route maps, and other Trek information is available at www.lelt.org or by calling the trust at 647-4352.
