Gray-New Gloucester softball pitcher Laura Getchell had quite a game on May 6, as she struck out 34 batters in a 14-inning 4-1 loss to York. Getchell and the Patriots bounced back from the loss on May 8 as they pounded Traip 21-1, in a game that was ended after five innings. Getchell had 12 strikeouts and also contributed at the plate with two hits and three RBIs. The Patriots’ Brittany Adell had three hits and four RBIs in the contest. On May 11, Gray-New Gloucester ran their record to 7-2 on the season wit a 4-0 win over Poland. The Patriots, who sit at No. 4 in the latest Heal Point standings, faced Greely on May 13 (after the Lakes Region Weekly’s deadline) and will return to action on May 18, when they head to Fryeburg Academy for a 4 p.m. game.
