Salaried employees in Standish will take a 3 percent pay cut rather than the 5 percent initially proposed under the budget forwarded by the Town Council to the Budget Committee.

Also put back into the budget by the Council were most of the donations to social service agencies, plus funds for economic development and road maintenance, said Finance Director Scott Gesuildi. The budget also includes a more optimistic view of next year’s revenue, an increase of $52,000, he said.

All told, the budget results in a decrease to the tax rate of 44 cent per thousand dollars of property value, 42 cents of which comes from a decrease in the town’s commitment to the School Administrative District 6 budget. The tax rate is now $10.40 per thousand dollars of property value.

The Budget Committee is now reviewing the budget, which it will bring back to the Council, with recommendations, on May 12. The Council will then consider the recommendations before finalizing the budget for the June 13 town meeting.
