Time is running out for residents to step forward as candidates for various municipal positions.

Nomination papers must be turned in to the Gray Town Office no later than noon Friday, April 24. Positions to be decided at the polls in June include: two three-year terms to the Town Council; remainder of a three-year term to the Council ending June 2010; two three-year terms to the School Administrative District 15 board; and one five-year term as a Gray Water District Trustee.

Councilors Matt Sturgis and Margaret Hutchins have taken out papers for three-year terms, while newcomer Tina Martell has taken out papers for both a one-year term on the Town Council and a three-year stint on the School Administrative District 15 Board of Directors.

Councilor Tracy Scheckel has decided not to seek a seat in this election. Scheckel was appointed to fill the remaining term after Allison Libbey resigned in 2007, then won the seat in the election of June 2008.

In a letter on her Web site, Scheckel laid out her reasons for not seeking another term.

“While my time on the Council has been rewarding and we have seen some great accomplishments during my tenure, time constraints both personal and professional preclude me from dedicating the time I feel is necessary to do the job effectively,” she wrote.
