A Sebago man shot by Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies in October was indicted March 6 for two counts of criminal threatening with a weapon.

Deputies went to the house of Douglas Tenczar, 41, on Oct. 22 after three young women ages 15, 17, and 19, said a man had waved a handgun at them in a road-rage incident on Route 114, according to Sheriff Mark Dion.

Deputy Stephen Welsh, Sgt. David Hall and Deputy Peter Anderson were outside Tenczar’s house when they saw him run to another room. When Welsh saw Tenczar level a shotgun at the door to his house, outside of which stood Hall, he and Anderson fired at Tenczar, who did not shoot his gun.

Tenczar, who had three previous arrests for operating under the influence, was taken by helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Authorities later found two shotguns and three handguns at his house, Dion said. Tenczar was released from the hospital and was not taken to Cumberland County Jail.

As of March 9, there had been no determination by the Maine Attorney General’s Office about whether Hall and Welsh were justified in the shooting.
