Governor John E. Baldacci joined in the 6th annual Nonprofit Day at the State House by participating in a press conference highlighting the event Thursday. The Governor thanked the agencies for their work on behalf of the people of Maine.
“Every aspect of the well-being of our communities is impacted by nonprofits,” Governor Baldacci said. “Our nonprofits help educate our children, train our workforce, preserve our lands, and heal our sick. Nonprofits are engaged as partners with the State and with private enterprise.”
The Maine Association of Nonprofits presented the Governor with a report entitled “Innovative Nonprofit Practices in Maine: A Good Return on Investment.” The report found that Maine’s nonprofits contribute $7 billion annually to the State’s economy. The report also outlined the various benefits of nonprofit groups collaborating or merging together in an effort to cut costs without cutting services.
