Gorham Food Pantry opens its new quarters with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, in the parking lot at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 299 Main St.
The food pantry rehabbed a portable building donated by the town of Gorham. It was moved to St. Anne’s property after it previously served as office space for the Planning Department at the former municipal center on Main Street.
A federal $44,000 grant helped in relocating the building.
The new home affords more space for the food pantry, which is supported by the Gorham Ecumenical Commission. The food pantry has been operating from 73-square-foot space inside St. Anne’s.
Fran Doucette, director of the food pantry, said during the Christmas season that it served nearly 200 people and numbers were rising.
Several churches banded together to start the food pantry, a non-profit organization, in 1997. A board of directors was formed about seven years ago to help organize and coordinate food distribution.
Food pantry hours are 9-11 a.m. every Thursday and 6-7:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month.
