Superbowl/Daytona 500 Superdeal

Gray-New Gloucester Project Graduation 2009 is accepting orders for giant sub sandwiches for Superbowl Sunday, Feb. 1, and Daytona 500 Sunday, Feb. 15. Please help support this worthy cause. Students will deliver your sandwiches to your front door on the day of the event.

The cost is $10 each for a giant sub sandwich on full loaf of Italian bread. Pick up your order blank at the High School, libraries, town halls or businesses around town, and send to: GNG Project Graduation 2009, 291 Yarmouth Road, Gray, ME 04039, or place your order blank in the Project Graduation Drop Box located in the main office at Gray-New Gloucester High School.

Fun in the snow

The Friends of Libby Hill will have a “Get Acquainted Night” Monday, Jan. 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Androscoggin Savings Bank in Gray.

Come and learn about the upcoming projects for 2009 and options to get involved with a dedicated group of trail users who make Libby Hill possible.

New also this winter is the publication of the Libby Hill Newsletter, which will be sent out quarterly. This publication will have events, volunteer projects, wildlife sightings, and secret places to investigate on Libby Hill. You can sign up for a free copy via e-mail or have a printed copy mailed to you on request (postage not included.)

Fund-raising continues in 2009 to save Libby Hill. In all, $40,000 still needs to be raised this year, but the campaign is off to a great start with the generous support of trail supporters.

Snowshoe events are scheduled for January through March. Loaner snowshoes are available on request, so why not come out and discover the joy of snowshoeing. Snowshoeing 101 on Libby Hill is Sunday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. For more information check out www.libbyhill.org or call Steve McPike at 657-2114.

Meeting on processing disorders

School Administrative District 15’s Special Education Department is hosting a parent meeting Jan. 28, 6-7 p.m., at Gray-New Gloucester High School on the topic of processing disorders. RSVP is required by calling 657-2066.

Who’s got the books

The Gray-New Gloucester High School library is looking for overdue library books. Please help us by asking your child if they have any library books that they may have forgotten to return. The librarian will issue monthly invoices for any overdue books until they are returned or reimbursed. For more information call 657-3323.

We have SPIRIT

The High School Civil Rights Team has invited the Department of Justice to present a workshop entitled Student Problem Identification and Resolution of Issues Together (SPIRIT) on Feb. 3 and 4.

The program was designed to assist school administrators in gaining insight into student perceptions of civil rights issues. The community relations specialists from the Department of Justice believe that their facilitation skills will be helpful in organizing and leading discussions among youth to acquire candid perceptions on school problems and solutions.

On Feb. 2 they will train volunteer staff members to assist them in facilitating the conversations during the two-day program. Around 100 students will be asked to participate.

Pajama sunday

Don’t feel like getting dressed or cooking on Sunday morning? The Sunday School at the First Congregational Church of Gray will be kicking off its second half of the school year with “Pajama Sunday” on Jan. 25. Come to Sunday School in your pajamas. Breakfast will be served beginning at 8:45 a.m. and Sunday School will begin at 8:55 a.m. All ages are invited, though pajamas are optional.

February’s Fab Four Fun Camp

Gray Parks and Recreational will again be offering the ever popular vacation day camp program for kids ages six to 13 during the February school vacation period. Camp will be held Feb. 17-20, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the option of an early drop-off at 7 a.m. and late pick-up at 5 p.m.

This camp is structured with four, fabulously fun enrichment classes in the morning, lunch period, and then four fantastic field trips in the afternoon. The location (either Gray-New Gloucester Middle or High School) and program fee is on the registration form that was passed out Jan. 22 in the totes and at the middle school.

This program is limited to the first 48 students registered and paid. If you don’t have a form or want more information call Dean at 657-2323.

Park and Rec events

Men’s 30 and older pick-up basketball will be held Mondays at Newbegin Gym, 7- 9 p.m. Limited to the first 15 paid ($2) sign-ups at the door.

Men’s Top Flight Spring 4-on-4 Basketball League, Junior Indoor Soccer (ages 5-8), Libby Hill Forest Winter Fun Day and Summer Day Camp Registration Nights (to be held in March/April) are all scheduled for the near future. Gray Businessperson of the Year

On Saturday, Jan. 17, Leo Credit of Gray Physical Therapy received Businessperson of the Year Award for 2008 from the Gray New Gloucester Business Association during their annual meeting at Spring Meadows in Gray.

Credit was chosen because of his heavy involvement in civic organizations that benefit local businesses and the community as a whole. He was also found “totaling deserving” of this honor for his unwavering energy, positive attitude, dedication to his business and for being a caring human being. Congratulations Leo.

The rest of the evening held a sumptuous dinner from Spring Meadows and following that was a great dance featuring the band The Kopterz.
