July 2009 will mark the 75th celebration of Casco Days in Casco Village. To commemorate this event, the Raymond-Casco Historical Society is seeking photographs, programs, souvenirs, news articles and all other memorabilia from past Casco Days to create a permanent historical exhibit for display. The history exhibit will be on display during the 2009 Casco Days in the society’s one-room schoolhouse, adjacent to the Casco Days Park in Casco Village. The first Casco Day was held July 27, 1935. Events in the early years included horse-pulling on Leach Hill, canoe and swimming races at Pleasant Lake and baseball games played against teams from other towns. Above, the cast from the play The Old Peabody Pew, including Ada Curtis, Russell Baker, Olive Hancock, May McAllister, Bertha Tenny, Beryle Winslow, Nina Burgess, and Alma Hancock, prepare to delight the crowd at the first Casco Day.
