School Administrative District 6 received a grant to install automated external defibrillators in its schools and offices.

An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable automatic device used to restore normal heart rhythm to patients in cardiac arrest.

The grant for $27,340 from the Narragansett Number One Foundation will allow the district to place defibrillators in most elementary schools, Bonny Eagle Middle School and Bonny Eagle High School.

Defibrillators may also be placed in the transportation department office, superintendent’s office and Hollis alternative education office. A unit may also be carried by the athletic trainer.

Defibrillators will assist with providing a safe learning environment, according to Kathy Campbell, School Community Liaison for SAD 6.

First responder training will be provided to staff. For more information on Heartsaver CPR and AED training, contact SAD 6 Adult Education.
