It took Standish firefighters about one hour to contain a blaze at 4 Holiday Lane Oct. 24.

At around 8:30 a.m. firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the roof of a mobile home in Pine Tree Estates, a community in western Standish just off Route 25. The homeowner had left the residence for a few minutes when another neighbor noticed the fire, according to a press release from the Standish Fire/EMS.

The fire started when a portable kerosene heater caught some recyclables on fire, according to Sheila Anthony, employee of Pine Tree Estates. The fire was contained to the living room, though the entire home was damaged by smoke.

Standish firefighters were assisted by firefighters from Gorham, Hollis and Buxton.
