I am writing in agreement with David Knudson’s letter of Oct 3. This is not the time for the town to get a $2.4 million dollar bond. We already have a long-term bond out on the new public safety/recycling buildings and will pay that bond for at least 20 years.

I know our household had an increase in property taxes this year.

This occurred even though money was taken out of the reserve funds to assist with the town budget. What will happen next year without the reserve funds?

If we get this bond to renovate Pennell, and move the town offices there, our taxes will increase above and beyond what will have to happen anyway. How much of an increase can you afford to pay after you pay for your winter fuel?

What is happening on Wall Street will effect everyone in the pocket book, through taxes, groceries, and fuel. Can you afford to pay more to move the town office when it isn’t needed right now? After all, we, the taxpayers, bought the neighboring post office years ago with the intent of using it for more offices for town administration which was never pursued after the purchase.

In closing, I would hate to see the historical beauty of the Pennell be lost to a short-sighted plan. I know that a survey was sent this spring and only about 300 people responded. Why should all the taxpayer of Gray, see their taxes increase for the views of so few?
